1966 Ferrari 330GT 2+2 Series II, s/n 8487
This car was purchased by its current owner in 1986 in boxes. The story goes like this: In the late ‘70s, the owner of this car took it in to a garage for a tune-up. Apparently, the garage owner had a bit of a cocaine habit and ended up removing and selling bits from the car to support his habit. He went pretty far down that road, including removing and dismantling the engine. When the owner found out, legal action ensued. The garage owner ended up in jail, and the car ended up being sold to a used Ferrari dealer, still in boxes. There were many parts missing, but fortunately, all the major bits were there. The current owner bought it, thinking it would simply be a matter of reassembling the car. By 2004 he had gone through the suspension, but much remained to be done. It was at this point that I was able to convince him to pay to have the car professionally restored. The results you can see here. The car had a color change sometime in the ‘70s to the ubiquitous Ferrari red. During the restoration, the original medium metallic grey was uncovered and the car was returned to that color. The interior has been done in a non-original two-tone with black and saddle leather, with dark blue carpets. The car was restored to be a driver. With that in mind, some originality was sacrificed where reliability could be improved. An electronic ignition has been installed, the original Fispa electric fuel pump has been omitted in favor of a Holley unit, and the use of the original type, yellow wire-wrapped fuel and oil hoses has been avoided.
